People We Love #1

Eiko Ishioka

Have you ever heard of Eiko Ishioka before? If yes, I reckon we should totally be friends and have a cup of coffee or tea and talk about gowns and capes and fabrics and all that jazz But If not..then we have a problem.

No, no, don't get me wrong. It is completely fine. What we're trying to say is; you missed out on the life of - in our opinion - the best costume designer ever. Her death is a tremendous loss to both film and fashion industries. There are so many designs to choose from and it is extremely hard to pick only one. So these are our favourites.

Eiko Ishioka

We found her work immensely vivid and intricate. She was able to create the sort of eye-catching visuals that were so perfectly in tune with the project at hand. Her Oscar-winning work on Bram Stoker's Dracula is the very definition of a masterpiece. Her designs elevate an already beautifuly made film and help Francis Ford Coppola's film feel unique..set apart from all the other vampire (and specifically Dracula) films that came before and after (no, we're not fans of Twilight, and no we're definitely not missing out. Although Interview with the Vampire came close).

Her designs for Mirror Mirror looking very much like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves come to life. They look like moving cartoons made of fabric and whatever other materials Ishioka deemed fit to incorporate.

The golden breastplates and fantasy robes of Immortals were brought to sensuous life by Ishioka's eye.

In conclusion...Eiko Ishioka knew her way around avant garde and she was a brilliant designer in the face of mainstream audience.

.........and you should agree with us.

A documentary about Ishioka released in 2007 was titled The Costumes are the Sets. We definitely highly recommend for you to watch it.

Movies We Love #2

W.E (2011)

We can't say we're fans of Madonna's directorial work, but we absolutely love her movie W.E. Not for the story, not for the cinematography but for the beautiful costume designs.

If you're keen on fashion and you're currently looking for that 'kick' to help you with your design, W.E is one movie you shouldn't miss. And if you're still a tad doubtful let us do some name dropping; designers who were involved were John Galliano, Madeleine Vionnet, Balenciaga, Issa and so on. We don't want to spoil anything for you - you just have to see the movie yourself!

Hats off to Arianne Phillips who made all the dresses!

ANNIE

We were actually going to reveal our new collection later on next week but we're waaay too excited!!
If you see our last post you could probably sense we adore Annie Hall. We channeled our little obsession towards our design and we came up with...

Annie!

Annie (Camel)

Annie (Grey)

These two bags are available at The Goods Dept.

Thank you Diane Keaton! Oh and our design team of course!!

Movies We Love #1

Annie Hall (1977)

One of Woody Allen’s cinematic masterpieces is without a doubt Annie Hall. Both a comedy and a tragedy, the movie contains solid examples of creativity in comedy. It is a film about the absurdity of the human condition. We can go on and on and dissect the movie but we’re not going to lecture you on that.
Annie Hall is a perfect example where masculinity has become a trend in women’s wear.

Here at Screaming Cheap, we all agree that Annie Hall is the movie that started the 'boyfriend's clothes' look. The fashion forward Annie, played exceptionally well by the young Diane Keaton pushed the androgynous look in the fashion world.

Suffice to say, this movie inspired us the most for our next collection!

Keep checking our blog for a sneak peak!

Music We Love

Hi peeps! We're currently working hard (yep, really) in our studio designing our next collection and we thought, "wouldn't it be awesome if we can share our inspirations to our lovely friends?". Thanks to technology, we can!

If you're keen on NIN or you think that Trent Reznor is a genius (he is) we recommend you to check out his latest project, How to Destroy Angels. Keep it Together is the first single from their second album. It's eerily beautiful....

Now... time to somehow incorporate this into our design... Back to work!

Sneak Preview! "Garden State" Ipad Case

It's irrefutable these days that Apple is taking over the world, or at least, our electronic gadget world. The glory days of Blackberry are nearing to an end, and other brands are simply coming up short especially on the (visually) cool factor of owning and iPhone-and/or-Pad. We at the Screaming Cheap HQ admit to owning one and/or the other so what else is there to do for us but create our version of a fun iPad case! Available in a myriad of colorful prints to choose from later this June. Here's a teaser pic for you to check out :)

Centre Stage Limited Edition

We're feeling the stripey trend this season. We've done multicolored stripes for Wall Street 2 and we're doing it big & bold for Center Stage. Better hurry for this one though. Extremely limited stuff! As always, available here & at The Goods Dept. (Price: Rp 375,000)

Bruno 2.0

Because it's a year of improvement in our Screaming Cheap HQ, we've decided to redesign another old favourite, the Bruno & give it a bit of a twist. We're proudly stamping our logo on the front & the straps get a new look with a slight out-turned curve down the bottom sides. Also available at The Goods Dept & of course, if you order it here. (Price: Rp 275,000)

NEW YEAR, NEW SEASON!

We've been absent for a while in the blogsphere but we're back with a vengeance! Expect new snapshots & updates of our latest collection every week. Here's to the new & improved Screaming Cheap... and the first preview of the reconstructed Wall Street 2 (available now on The Goods Dept; Price: Rp 395,000)
